Pool Safety is a Must

pool-drowning-e1414403307270-300x223Pool safety is a must especially if you own your own pool.  As we start to see warmer weather, the unfortunate truth is that we will begin to see an increase in drownings.  Most drownings are preventable and all it takes are a few  precautionary steps.

From fences to a pool protector alarm you have a wide selection of choices, but it does not take away from the most important tool and that is supervision.

Whether you live in a climate that’s warm year-round or you mainly enjoy outdoor activities during the summer, swimming and water are likely to be a big part of family fun. But the importance of safety cannot be overstated.

Drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 2. It’s the second leading cause of death for children ages 3 to 6, but people of any age can be at risk. In 2013, 3,391 people over all age groups drowned. (Injury Facts, 2016)

While many are aware of the importance of safety around pools and at the beach, parents also need to supervise their children near bathtubs. Most drowning and near-drowning incidents happen when a child falls into a pool or is left alone in the bathtub. Having lived around pools   and water all of my life, there is no greater terror that having a loved one drown is your pool and knowing you could have prevented it.  Don’t put off till tomorrow what you must do today!  Make sure your pool is safe and everyone using it understands the rules.  Most importantly, don’t forget those that are not old enough to understand the dangers and place measures in place to protect them from the dangers.

Pool safety is everyone’s responsibility, don’t take it for granted!!
