Quality Slingshots

A slingshot can be called by a number of different titles, including a katty, a catapult, a shanghai or a wrist cannon. This simple weapon is easy to use and build. It is one of the most popular toys of the 20th century for both pre-teens and children. Additionally, people around the world use these simple hand-held catapults to hunt small game. Furthermore, there are slingshot competitions for both accuracy and firing speed.

The construction of discount quality slingshots is quite simple. The slingshot consists of a central shaft that forks into two separate rods. A rubber band or rubber tube is connected to each end of the two rods. In the beginning, slingshots were made from old tires; however, in the late 1940s, slingshots were produced commercially and marketed as children's toys.

Many historians believe that the modern day slingshot did not make its appearance until the turn of the century. For the next several decades these toys were homemade. However, in 1948 the Wham-O company began production of slingshots. Then, in 1954, Saunders developed a new invention- a slingshot that could be mounted to the wrist. This design increased stability and torque and was dubbed the wrist rocket.

In addition to being a toy, a slingshot can be an impressive hunting weapon. A slingshot has numerous advantages for hunting small game. Slingshots are easier to use than other weapons and produce high velocities. These weapons are virtually silent, making them preferable to hunting rifles and shotguns that can scare off wild game in the area. Slingshots are used for small game, such as rabbits, squirrels, rodents and a wide range of birds.

Those who use slingshots for hunting normally do not use rocks. Instead, they use metal spheres that are between 9 millimeters and 12 millimeters in diameter. This is sufficient to hunt most game, yet light enough to carry ample amounts of ammo. Additionally, this size ammo can travel great distances at high velocities. In general, slingshots are best used for hunting around 80 feet; however, greater distances can be achieved.

Recently, slingshots have appeared in the paintball arena. The size of the paintballs fit perfectly in the slingshot. Additionally, because the speed of a paintball gun is low, a slingshot can work just as well. However, it is important to understand that learning to effectively use a paintball gun is a little harder than a paintball gun. Most people who use slingshots for paintball use them as a backup weapon should their paintball gun jam. Quality slingshots are much quieter than a paintball gun making them effective sniping weapons. It should be noted that many paintball companies prohibit the use of unapproved items. Therefore, it is best to check with the paintball company before using a slingshot on the paintball course.

Many people think of discount quality slingshots as toys; however, they can also be effective hunting weapons when hunting small game. Additionally, these items can be used quite effectively on the paintball field. If you have never considered trying out a slingshot, you should give it a try. You may be surprised by how much you enjoy using this item.
