Hidden Cameras

Caught on hidden camera

Hidden cameras are a video camera that is typically stationary and is used to film people without them knowing. The camera is hidden so it goes undetected by the people who are being filmed and is usually masked by another object. Hidden or secret surveillance cameras, are frequently used for household surveillance systems. They are popular because they can be encased in benign objects, such as radios, baseball caps, mobile phones, plants, and smoke detectors. Hidden cameras are also used for industrial or commercial security needs to monitor activity inside and outside the property.

Hidden cameras can be wireless or wired. A wireless system can transmit the video using a broadcast signal to a receiver within a few hundred feet, whereas a wired system is attached to a DVR, VCR, or TV to view the video at a later time.

During mobile-covert surveillance, a hidden camera may be concealed as an item of clothing, such as a button on a shirt, a hat, or necktie. Small DVD recorders, which are small enough to fit inside of a pocket, allow recording of the events the hidden camera is capturing. The DVR recording can be used for later screening or a wireless receiver can transmit the video to a remote location where someone can record and view the video as the recording is occurring.

Hidden cameras are also used in commercial applications for security cameras. There are multiple uses for security cameras that are hidden. Typically, they were used for industrial and commercial applications to watch employees, the exterior of buildings, storage areas, etc. Similar cameras are increasingly popular for residential surveillance. Residents may use them to watch caregivers who are interacting with their children or another person who need assistance, as a baby monitor, and to keep an eye on teens that are home alone. Many homeowners are using hidden cameras to monitor the exterior of their property, vehicles, and packages left on the front porch.

There are endless benefits to hidden camera systems. The benefit of hidden cameras over overt security systems is you do not have to be concerned about a subject acting differently if they notice a camera. The mere presence of an obvious camera can thwart a persons intentions, which can prevent capturing valuable evidence. A hidden or secret surveillance camera can be instrumental in collecting evidence, especially if you suspect a crime is being committed.
