Diversion Safes

It's not uncommon to want to protect your valuables in the event of a burglary. Have you considered the added layer of safety that you get with a diversion safe? These terrific products allow you to keep valuables of all sorts hidden in plain sight and greatly decrease the odds of intruders finding them. Diversion safes for the home, mimic the appearance of ordinary household items while offering you a secure space to stash your valuables.

Can safes are a particularly popular style of diversion safe. They do a terrific job of mimicking real products because they're usually made from genuine consumer goods. A can safe will usually be created by hollowing out an existing can or container and installing a secure closure on its top. Weights are often added to ensure that the safe's final weight resembles that of a full container. The original product labeling remains untouched. Many can safes emulate soup or beer, but there are also versions available that imitate a range of different beverage products.

Can safes are most effective when you place then among multiple genuine products to give them yet another layer of camouflage. A can safe that's placed in an inaccessible place, such as a high shelf, is more likely to pass unnoticed. The screw tops used on diversion safes present another difficulty because they require time to open. These steps are all designed to rob a burglar of the most precious resource he has while he's in your home, time.

In many burglaries, the perpetrators are looking for targets of opportunity -- light, easily liftable items that are left in the open and present considerable value. Examples include jewelry, watches, credit cards, wallets, and phones. These are easy to spot and take just seconds to pick up and slip into a pocket. The average burglary lasts just 10 minutes; this is because most burglars attempt to move from house to house as quickly as possible to hit every tempting target in a given neighborhood on the same night.

If you have a diversion safe available -- and they come in a variety of forms beyond the can and beverage safes described above -- and you take just a moment to drop these tempting theft targets into them, they will drop right off the radar of the vast majority of burglars. Without easy targets such as these, it's highly likely that a burglar will simply give up on your house.

Can safes and other types of diversion safes are manufactured to blend into any room in the house. Different models are ideally suited for use in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and even the garage. Of course, picking out the ideal spot for your diversion safe is entirely up to you.

The same idea can give added security to travelers who would be in extra trouble if they lost their valuables. Diversion safes designed for use in hotel rooms (examples include cans of shaving cream or ordinary sodas) are very popular. These are items that no thief would bother stealing from your hotel room.

A diversion safe or two is an excellent way to protect valuables in any part of your home. They even make great gifts! Diversion safes the homr are extremely affordable but also highly effective tools for keeping your possessions secure
