Cables and Connectors

CCTV cables and connectors

CCTV cables and connectors all though are pretty basic, have been the one thing I have seen over the years which have caused issues when installing cameras.

It doesn’t matter your level of experience, there will come time when you are in the midst of an installation and you run out of one or the other. Being prepared is always the best solution and I for one have put together my camera installation kit that I have updated and kept in tack for CCTV installations.

One of the items that you can never have too many of, are basic BNC connectors. These come in a variety of types each with a purpose and you will never know when you made need one vs the other.

I remember an installation I was completing and had misjudged the amount of cable that was going to be needed. We have run almost the full left to the camera, but fell short about 30 feet. At this point we had 2 options. First was to quit and come back another night with more cable and re-run it. Or second, grab some extra line from another spool for the extra 30 feet and then use a barrel connector to join the 2. Since I had spare connectors, which option do you think I took. Yep. Option 2.

Cable comes in a variety of lengths and if you are unsure of how much you will need, I would suggest you go ahead and get a spool. These spools come in 500 or 1000 feet and already have the power included. They are called Siamese cable which refers to the video and power all in one.

If you are able to calculate the exact amount of cable you will need then you can go ahead and purchase cable which comes with the connectors already attached. Definitely user friendly and come in a variety of lengths.

As always, any question please feel free to drop an email, I would be glad to help.
